Trips and Travel
体育投注正规网址From its earliest beginnings, Swain has embraced the importance of getting off campus to see the bigger world. That tradition continues today.
The youngest students set off for farms, orchards and local parks in the fall, to supplement their study of trees and fruits, and the season of autumn. As they explore community helpers, they enjoy Imagi Nation and visit grocery stores and restaurants. Science and the Arts are the focus of trips to the Da Vinci Science Center, Civic Theatre, Crayola Factory, Banana Factory, and other theatres and museums.
All Pennsylvania third graders learn about their state, and Swain does it in a big way with visits to William Penn’s Pennsbury Manor, Coal Mines, Martin Guitars and other manufacturers and the state capitol. Fourth graders explore immigration, and travel to New York City to visit Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty. As part of their year-long study of Asia, our fifth graders visit New York’s Chinatown, Metropolitan Museum of Art, and travelling exhibits like the Ghengis Khan exhibit at the Franklin Institute. Students also explore geologic formations at Lost River Caverns as a part of their science studies.
The intermediate and middle school ages also enjoy at least one overnight class trip per year which is included in the outdoor education curriculum. Outdoor education trips are included in all 4th through 8th grade classes, however, each grade also enjoys day trips that support the arts, humanities, science and math curricula. Some of these trips include museum visits, culinary and cultural experiences, musical/ theater productions, and engineering trips. These trips may vary from year to year depending on the productions and exhibits available.
A culminating experience for our eighth grade students is their end-of-year trip, which they plan with assistance from the outdoor education coordinator and advisors.
For students that find the exhilarating, Swain also provides a series of optional trips that can extend and challenge the students to experience the outdoors in a more immersive environment. Trips vary in length, experience and location.
